Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger is an upcoming superhero movie that is based on Captain American of the Marvel comics. As the fifth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film started as a concept in 1997 but the project was disrupted by a lawsuit that was settled in September 2003.
The Premise
The premise of the movie is based on Steve Rodgers, who was deemed unfit to join the US Army in 1942 to fight the Nazis in the World War II. He then volunteers for a top secret research project which transforms him into Captain America – a super soldier who will work to defend the ideals of the country. He will work with a side kick Bucky Barnes, to fight off the Red Skull, who is the head of HYDRA organization. Red Skull has a plan for world denomination that involves the use of Tessaract- a magical object.
Cast
Chris Evans is Captain America/Steve Rodgers. He had previously worked with Marvel in the Fantastic Four film series as Human Torch. Tom Lee Jones is Col Chester Phillips, who, in the early Comics recruits Steve Rodgers to join Project Rebirth. His character will be updated and is expected to be a skeptical officer who oversees a team of talented soldiers. Hugo Weaving stars as Red Skull/Johann Schmidt, who is the nemesis of Captain America as well as the head advance weaponry for Hitler. In the film, he is also a commander of HYDRA, a terrorist organization that Captain America wants to defeat. Other members of the cast include Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Derek Luke as Gabe Jones, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Stanley Tucci as Dr Abraham Erskine and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes.
Production and Filming
Directed by Joe Johnston, and produced by Kevin Feige, Captain America: The First Avenger’s filming started on July 28, 2010. It was announced that it will be shoot in London, England in late July and some of the key landmarks of the city will be displayed. The war scenes were filmed in Caerwent in Wales. Other cities that will be featured in the film include Manchester and Liverpool. In March 2011, it was reported that the film will undergo re-shoots in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom in April 2011.
Release Date
Captain America: The First Avenger is to be released in the United States and Canada on July 22 2011, and viewers can check out the trailers as they wait for the release.
